  • June Club Ride – June 8, 2013 – 7:30 AM – Ft. Rucker (Lake Tholocco - West Beach) 18, 37 and 48 mile options.  Each distance will have ride leaders.   Courses unmarked. Be sure to bring your drivers license, proof of insurance, registration to get onto post.  If you are riding the 48 mile course you will need to take your license with you in order to return to post. More details soon.

Resolution Ride
Sunday, December 30, 2012, Roll Time 1:45 PM

Get ready for 2013 and get thta resolution to ride more in 2013 kicked off with a good ride with some good people.  The ride will starts from Dakota Coffee (a great club sponsor) located between Flowers Hospital and Publix, in Dothan.  We will be there at 1:00pm to start registration for a 1:45 roll time.  Remember to sign in when you arrive and sign out after your ride.  Distance options are 8 , 20 and 31 miles.  Routes are not marked but we will have maps at the start and links are provided below.  Temps are predicted to be a little cool, for LA, but it should still be a great day to ride together.

Remember to obey the rules of the road and as always safety first.  We will be using the city provided bike lanes and this will be a good opportunity for us to be seen by the public.

Also remember that you can renew your club membership Sunday.  Being a member of the club helps us to organize rides and events.  We encourage membership, but you don’t have to be a member to ride with us.

Keep in mind that several businesses are located in the area so try to not max out Dakota’s parking lot.  Parking is available at the SB&T Bank as well as the Publix lot.

Finally, Dakota Coffee is one of our sponsors so either before or after your ride, or both, go inside and check out their menu.

The Routes

Toys 4 Tots – 2nd Annual Ride
The 2nd annual Toys for Tots Bike Ride is a way enjoy a fun day of cycling while giving back to the community by collecting new toys that will be donated to the Toys for Tots drive for the Wiregrass area. We are requesting a new toy valued at $10.00 or more be donated by each person participating in the event.  Riders will sign in / out at the ride, there will not be any formal registration.

The event will be held on Saturday December 1st, 2012 and roll time is 8:45 AM sharp. The Start / Finish will be at the Hidden Lake Elementary School parking lot on Prevatt Road.

This event will include options for the following distances:

  • 44 Mile Route
    • Store Stops at 16 and 28 Miles / Snacks & Drinks at Start / Finish
  • 20 Mile Route
    • Snacks & Drinks at Start / Finish
  • 10 Mile Route
    • Snacks & Drinks at Start / Finish

A group of us went out to eat lunch together after this ride last year and we plan to do the same after this year’s ride.  It is not a formal planned lunch, just friends getting together to eat and visit.  Feel free to join in!

Each rider will be responsible for purchasing their own drinks / snacks at the stores but the store owners are used to cyclists coming in and upon request, they will provide free water. The stores have bathrooms as well. Limited SAG support will be provided for anyone having mechanical or physical issues that prevents them from completing their selected route. Phone number(s) will be provided at the Start / Finish for the SAG contacts.

Ride for Turkeys
Saturday, November 3, 2012, Roll Time 8:00 AM
DAC and The Joy FM 94.3 are teaming up together to sponsor a bicycling event on Saturday November 3rd. This event will be a charity event to raise money to provide turkeys for the needy for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This event is the kick off for the 94.3 T-Shirts for Turkeys and all participating riders will receive a T-Shirt! Plans are also in the works for a live remote by 94.3 at the start / finish!
This event will include a Metric Century (67 miles), a 27 Mile Route, a 10 Mile Route, and a Family Fun Ride (3 Mile Out And Back Route) that will be located in the Hidden Lake Subdivision. The Family Fun Ride can be be accessed via the sidewalk between Hidden Lake Elementary and the Hidden Lake Subdivision.

The fee to participate in the event will be $20.00 per rider. The fee for families participating in the Family Fun Ride will be $20.00 per family. Rest stops will be provided as well as SAG support.
The starting location is the Hidden Lake Elementary School Parking Lot. Roll time is 8:00 AM.
Please remember, helmets are mandatory for all riders participating in this event.

Dothan Area Cyclists Club Meeting
We will be having a club meeting on Wednesday June 20th at 6:00 PM at Dakota Coffee Works located on West Main Street just west of the court house. We will update the event with an agenda soon but wanted to give everyone as much advance notice as possible.

Group Ride and Time Trial Rematch

Sunday June 3rd, 1:15 Beverlye  Middle School, Dothan AL. PM Back by popular demand, we will have a choice of a group ride or running a time trial. We will leverage the existing time trial course layout as everyone is already familiar with this course and the positive feedback from those who ran it last time.

Mayors Ride for Fitness
Saturday, May 12th, Dothan Alabama. Participants will join Mayor Mike, on the 3.3 mile asphalt bike loop at Westgate Park for a morning of fitness fun! Following the ride, participants can visit the Fitness Fair to learn more about fitness and healthy eating from a variety of local vendors… Read more here

Boll Weevil Ride
Saturday, May 12th, Enterprise Alabama.  This ride is always well organized and the rest stops are outstanding. Finishers receive a medal & t-shirt. Usually about 100 riders and a challenging course.

Club Ride
Saturday, May 5, 2012 – 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM – Dale County High School in Midland City Alabama. We will have our most ambitious club ride to date. We will leave from Midland City and using the Tuesday Night routes you can ride any of those courses or a combination of the routes for a designated time and then we will serve lunch. The ride is free to members of the club. Non-members are welcome as well but will need to pay $5 to offset the cost of lunch. Everyone will need to sign in before you ride and sign again once your ride is complete.  See the flyer here.

Group Ride / Event – Time Trials and Group Ride

For the April event, we have two options so there is definitely something for everyone.
The first option is the first ever time trials.  Race the clock on our 10 mile out-and-back course (5 miles each way). Riders will be staggered to lower any chances of interference. Multiple runs will be allowed if time is available.

The second option available for those who don’t want to take part in the time trials will be a relaxed group ride.  When we say group, we mean group.  Everyone will hang together as the route will not be published before the event.  This will be a social ride.

Just like we did last month with the north side rides, this month we are doing it with the new-for-2012 Southside Rides!  Come out and preview the all new, newly painted southside ride routes that will become the Thursday night ride series in March (following the time change and more hours of daylight).  Three route options will be available as shown below.   The ride is open to everyone.  No one will be dropped and no one will ride alone, unless they want to!

Come our and preview the north side ride routes that will become the Tuesday night ride series in March (following the time change and more hours of daylight).  Three route options will be available as shown below.  When selecting your route, note that these may have more elevation change than some other rides.  The ride is open to everyone.  No one will be dropped and no one will ride alone, unless they want to!

State Championship Road Race Meeting / Club Meeting

This club meeting will center around discussion of the upcoming state championship race to be held Dothan. The meeting will also cover general club business.  Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase from club supporter, Dakota Coffee.

The Resolution Ride
Join DAC and kick off 2012 the right way with a 20 or 30 mile casual ride with friends.  The rides will all depart from Dakota Coffee by Flowers Hospital and traverse low traffic roads.  The pace will be such that no one will be left behind.
